St. Donatus Balatonboglari Merlot Wine Review

I have never had a Hungarian wine before…time to fix that! Today I review the St. Donatus Balatonboglari Merlot from Hungary.

►Vintage: 2015
►Varietal: Merlot
►Region: Hungary
►ABV: 12%
►Price: $5.50

Update: I let it breathe for 12 hours and the “barnyard” smell that was with this wine went away. I would rate it a good with proper aeration.

My name is Stuart and I live in San Antonio, TX. My love affair with wine started when I was in graduate school. I didn’t use loans to pay for school, so we had to be as frugal as possible. I also started to experiment with wine during this time. It took a little while, but I was able to pick out flavors in wine and started to realize that there were some good (and bad) wines that could be found for under $15 a bottle. I decided to start a blog to act as an outlet for my creative energies and talk about the wine that I have tried.
