Lately I’ve noticed that from time-to-time, a mommy needs a break. Most of the time, my wife likes to blow off steam by competing in underground fight clubs, but sometimes you need something a little cleaner. Well, maybe she can take a time out and grab of a glass of today’s wine.
Name: Mommy’s Time Out Garganega/Pinot Grigio
Winery: C.M.S.P.A. Montorso Vincentino
Varietal Blend: 70% Garganega, 30% Pinto Grigio
Region: Delle Venezie (Italy)
Alcohol by Vol.: 11.5%
(Price can vary on state, taxes, the store’s mark-up, and the number of gray hairs the kids have put on your wife’s head.)
The body of the wine was light and it had a dull yellow color. It was very similar to many other Italian Pinot Grigios that I have seen before. (I know, shocking!) The nose was a little floral with a hint of something sweet at the end. If I had to compare the smell to something, then I would say it kind of smelled like a green Jolly Rancher.
The taste lived up to the smell. There was a hint of pear upfront with a big apple finish. The one thing that disappointed me was how much alcohol I could taste the whole time. This wine was very “hot” and I am hoping that I just got a weird bottle.
After my wife got back from her “workout”, she tried this and gave me a reaction that made me feel validated in my rating. It’s not that this wine was bad, but the delicate nature of the grapes was totally overshadowed by the flavor of the alcohol. Regardless, she took the glass upstairs without any encouragement on my part. I guess my wife wanted to indulge in a Mommy’s Time Out.
Buy it if you want and leave a comment if you had a different experience with it.
