First of all, one of my favorite things regarding this wine is the label. I love fun labels and this one really appeals to the Biologist in me. Now to the details…
The wine was a very dark red, with purple accents. It smelled of blackberry, cherry, and vanilla. There is also a very pleasant oak aroma that demonstrated that it had been aged well.
I took a taste and it brought back fond memories of the first time I had this wine. The wine is very subtle upfront but really blossoms once it has a chance to develop in your mouth. I was reacquainted with the full body and dry, oaky, and (slightly) spicy taste. The long finish treated me with the vanilla that I had previously smelled.
I think I could enjoy this wine with pretty much anything. I’m betting that you could pair this wine with a dirty shoe and it would still stand out as being exceptional. However, I would recommend a nicely marbled rib-eye steak and a side of greens. I’ve had this pairing in the past and it was excellent.
Rating: Enjoy Again
Normally this wine sits outside of the price range for the blog, which is why I haven’t reviewed it sooner. However, if you can find a bottle for under $15 then I highly recommend that you get as many of them as possible. It is an amazing wine that will leave you and your guests pleased.
